A Legal Clinic on Matters of Socio-Economic Inclusion of Refugees, organized by the Foundation for Access to Rights - FAR with the support of the UN Refugee Agency, was held from 20.06.2024 to 10.09.2024. Both Bulgarian students and students from refugee communities with an interest in human rights and social activities participated in the Legal Clinic.
The students participated in weekly meetings led by experts in the field of refugee law and staff of the Foundation for Access to Rights - FAR, who presented their knowledge on a diverse range of topics such as the content of international and temporary protection, social assistance, access to education, unaccompanied children, right to health care, right to work, discrimination, labour exploitation, obtaining Bulgarian citizenship and others. During these meetings, participants were given the opportunity not only to receive up-to-date information on the topics, but also to apply what they learned through the use of modern and creative training techniques led by a facilitator. They solved case studies and performed tasks to consolidate their newly acquired knowledge.
At the end of the Legal Clinic, the students took part in a final seminar to which experts in the field of refugee law, students, lecturers and representatives of the refugee community in Bulgaria were invited to attend. This public final seminar provided an opportunity for all attendees to exchange valuable knowledge, experiences and observations related to the topics selected by the participants for discussion during the seminar.
Through the Legal Clinic, the participating students experienced the practice of refugee law in Bulgaria and created a small inspiring community of future experts with an interest in human rights and refugee law.
